Complete the Quest With the Parents Alive
Complete Mummy and Daddy by calming the parents with the music box, placing Cheese on the plate inside their cell, and speaking to the nearby burrow again to receive a Tiny Whisker Gift. Do not shoot the undead in the cell: doing so immediately fails the quest.
Start at the Sewers Lantern
Reach the Sewers Lantern in the City of Orphans. Across the sewer from the Lantern, look behind the ladder for a burrow. Interacting with that burrow starts Mummy and Daddy and gives you the Cheese needed later.
You need Fire Transmutation to clear the gold vines beside the Sewers Key chest along the route. Fire is obtained during the opening section of the game and can destroy these vines. Keep the Cheese for the plate inside the parents’ cell.
Find the Music Box and Deliver the Cheese
- Speak through the burrow behind the ladder opposite the Sewers Lantern. This starts the quest and gives you Cheese, which you will deliver after finding the music box.
- Follow the main sewer route until you reach a fork with a ladder descending on the left. Take that ladder down to the room containing the Sewers Key chest.
- Open the chest to collect the Sewers Key. Use this chest as your landmark for the quest’s side passage: the gold vines you need to clear are on its left.
- Burn the gold vines to the left of the chest with Fire Transmutation. Clearing them opens the way into the next room, where another burrow advances the quest.
- Interact with the burrow beyond the vines to learn about the undead in the cell on the right. Leave the cell’s occupants unharmed, because shooting them immediately fails the quest.
- Enter the room to the right of the parents’ cell. Look for the boxes inside; they conceal the passage leading toward the music box.
- Break the boxes to uncover a low opening. This reveals the hole you can crouch through to reach the room with the music box.
- Crouch through the exposed hole into the hidden room. The music box is on the floor, beside the bedding.
- Interact with the music box on the floor. Its music calms the parents, allowing you to continue with the delivery inside their cell.
- Open the parents’ cell door after returning from the music box. You can now reach the plate where the Cheese belongs.
- Interact with the plate inside the cell to place the Cheese. After this delivery, the remaining quest interaction is back at the nearby burrow.
- Speak through the burrow near the cell again. This final conversation completes Mummy and Daddy and awards the Tiny Whisker Gift.
Rewards and Achievement Requirements
| Reward | What You Receive |
|---|---|
| Quest completion payout | 3,000 Catalysts when you finish the quest. |
| Tiny Whisker Gift | A reward item worth 3,000 Catalysts when used. |
| Mice friendship | Completing the quest with the parents spared adds 3 friendship points. |
| Trophy or achievement | Mummy and Daddy has no dedicated completion trophy or achievement. |
Avoid Failure and Finish the Final Interaction
- If the cell door is still closed, finish the music-box interaction first. Search the room to the right of the cell, break the boxes, and crouch through the opening to find it.
- If you have placed the Cheese but have not received the gift, return to the burrow near the cell. Speaking through it after the delivery is the interaction that completes the quest.
- Keep your shots away from the undead parents throughout the encounter. Shooting them immediately fails the quest, and killing them turns the Mice against you.
Spoiler Warning: Later Rewards From the Mice
Sparing the parents contributes 3 Mice friendship points toward their later rewards. Aim to have at least 10 points before climbing the Fortress’s High Tower. Earn that friendship through the Mice’s quests and conversations in The Outskirts and the City of Orphans before moving onward.
With at least 10 friendship points, the Mouse King in Entropy gives you the Giant Whisker Gift and the Mice’s Key. The gift is worth 30,000 Catalysts when used. The key opens a shortcut through Entropy.
