Complete Misericorde and Collect Your Reward
To complete Misericorde in Valor Mortis, speak with the captive man near the shortcut-gate stairs in Shamble Street, shoot the attic weak point in the building opposite, then return to him. Interacting with him after destroying the growth completes the quest and awards a Remnant's Return consumable.
Start at the Shamble Street Lantern
Use the Shamble Street Lantern in City of Orphans as your starting point. Continue through the area and look beneath the arches for the injured man strapped to a pile of wood, on the left near the stairs leading to a shortcut gate. Have a firearm ready, as the route takes you to an attic weak point that you must shoot.
Destroy the Attic Growth and Return to the Man
- Speak with the man strapped to the pile of wood beside the shortcut-gate stairs to begin Misericorde.
- Enter the building opposite the injured man to reach the indoor route toward the upper floor.
- Climb to the building's top floor, where you can continue onto the exterior walkway.
- Follow the walkway around the outside of the building until you can see the glowing red growth in the attic.
- Shoot the attic growth to destroy the weak point needed for the quest.
- Return downstairs to the captive man beside the pile of wood for the final interaction.
- Interact with the man again to finish Misericorde and receive Remnant's Return.
Quest Choice Spoilers: The Soldier's Fate and Rewards
Choose “End his suffering.” if you want the larger payout. The decision changes your Catalyst reward, while either option gives you Remnant's Return.
| Choice | Reward |
|---|---|
| End his suffering. | Remnant's Return and 3,000 Catalysts. |
| Do nothing and leave him alive. | Remnant's Return without the additional Catalysts. |
Using Remnant's Return
Remnant's Return recovers Catalysts lost on death without requiring you to return to the place where you died. Save it for a recovery route you would rather avoid. Misericorde has no dedicated trophy or achievement attached to its completion.
If Misericorde Won't Start or Finish
A game update fixed an issue that could cause players to miss Misericorde's starting point. If you previously passed through without starting it, return to the man beside the shortcut-gate stairs and speak with him. Side-quest fixes require revisiting the quest location; they do not automatically add or resolve the quest in your journal.
If you have destroyed the attic growth but the quest is still active, return downstairs and interact with the man. That return interaction is the completion step that awards Remnant's Return. If you have already moved on from the city, Misericorde can still be started and completed after the story.
